Writey bought by Google
Looks like the buying spree of Web2.0 business hasn’t stopped, after all. Who says you can’t build to flip?
Here is the latest of Google’s acquisitions : Writely, the collaborative word processor. We can see that all the big guys are heading for the Web2.0 office; it has started with huge email accounts, followed by allowing users to keep persistent data on the web(Yahoo’s MyWeb, Google’s newest Desktop Search and MS’s Windows Live), with online calendars and, here they are, the ultimate office tools.
First one in the battle: the word processor.
(I found about this via MicroPersuasion , and only because it was first in my feed list; all the blogosphere tallks about this)
Update: A comment on the subject on one of my favorite IT blogs: 37signals
Update2: An insider’s view on Writely and the guys behind it. Seems like they really knew what they were doing, and the 7-8 months since its start have been quite productive; the main advantage of experience: it gets you farther quicker. (via TechConfidential)
